Where can you renew your Colombian passport in Spain?
The general consulate has authorization to process passport renewals abroad. There are seven offices in Spain where you can complete the process. They are strategically located throughout the Spanish territory. Here’s where you can find the offices:
- Madrid: serves the communities of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Galicia, and Andalusia
- Barcelona: covers the community of Catalonia, Aragon, and the Principality of Andorra
- Bilbao: serves the Basque Country, La Rioja, Navarra, and Cantabria
- Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: serves the provinces of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife
- Palma de Mallorca: covers the Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Cabrera, Ibiza, and Formentera
- Valencia: serves the communities of Valencia and Murcia
- Seville: covers the entire territory of Andalusia
Choose the location that’s closest and most convenient for you. Consider that you must make at least two visits to the consulate: one to start the procedure and another to pick up your passport.
What’s the procedure at the Colombian consulate, and what are the required documents?
To start the process, register your personal data through the Integral System of Citizen Procedures. Preload your information on the website to expedite the process on the day you go to the consulate.
Next, request an appointment at the consulate. Then, arrive with the correct documents on the date of your appointment. The consulate confirms your data, takes your photo, and registers your fingerprint and signature.
Passport renewal for seniors
On the day of your appointment, present the following documents:
- Original of your valid citizenship card in a valid format
- Previous passport if you have one
If you don’t have a valid form of identification, the consulate will ask you for the password of the Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil and a copy of the civil registry of birth or the online consultation of the certificate of validity of the advanced identity card.
If you don’t have your passport, the office takes an affidavit for theft or loss before issuing your new passport.
Passport renewal for minors
For minors, the procedure requires the presence of at least one parent, or a duly authorized representative in their absence. In addition, it’s necessary to present the following required documents:
- Valid form of identification for the parent or legal representative accompanying the minor
- Authentic copy of the civil registry of birth
- Previous passport if you have one. Otherwise, unless you’re applying for your first passport, an affidavit of loss or theft will be required.
An identity card isn’t required to renew or apply for a minor’s passport for the first time at a Colombian consulate.
What’s the cost of renewing a Colombian passport in Spain?
Currently, Colombia offers four types of passports in Spain. The cost varies between 68 and 120 euros depending on the type. You can pay with debit, credit, or a secure online payment. However, the latter method requires you to have an active account in Colombia.
In addition, you must have the application number and follow the steps on the website. The types of passports include:
- Ordinary passport: This passport costs 68 € and corresponds to a 32-page travel booklet valid for 10 years.
- Executive passport: At 120 €, the executive passport is the most expensive. It’s designed for people who travel with high regularity and has 48 pages, offering the same validity as the ordinary passport.
- Emergency passport: This passport is for people in vulnerable situations who must safeguard their life, health, or integrity. It costs 86 €. You’ll receive a travel document with eight pages and seven months of validity.
- Exempt passport: This is the only passport on this list at no cost. It’s intended for Colombians who find themselves deported, repatriated as stowaways, or in similar situations.
