What documents do you need to renew your Chilean passport?
There are certain requirements to renew your Chilean passport in Spain, such as:
- You must prove your Chilean nationality, either with your ID or previous passport.
- Regardless of the above, you need a valid ID to complete the process. If it’s already expired, it’s necessary to process both your ID and passport.
- In case of loss, theft, or robbery of the document, you’re required to present a police report.
How and where do you carry out the process?
You cannot complete the renewal process online. It must be done in person at one of the two Chilean consulates in Spain: Madrid and Barcelona. Make an appointment before arriving at the consulate. If you have an expired passport and ID, you can take advantage of this same appointment to renew them.

How much does the renewal of a Chilean passport cost?
The cost depends on the passport. For example, the 32-page passport costs 91 euros, while the 64-page passport costs 92 euros.
You’re required to pay at the consulate with a bank card. If you plan to renew your ID, it costs an additional 11 euros. Remember that these prices may vary according to exchange rates.
How long do you have to wait for the passport?
It may take approximately 8 to 12 weeks after your appointment to receive your passport. They’re issued in Chile and not generated at the consulate, which lengthens the process.
Avoid waiting until your current passport expires. Rather, complete the renewal process at least three months before your current passport expires.

No, the photograph is taken at the time of your passport processing.
If your passport is lost or stolen, should you renew it?
No. If your passport is lost or stolen, you have to request a safe-conduct, which only serves as a travel document for your return to Chile. Go to the consulate within 10 days before your departure from Spain and bring the police report of the theft or loss and a color passport photo. This costs approximately 10 euros.
